Singer that won't stitch?

When I try to stitch on my 3116 Singer the thread from the bobbin bunches up below the fabric. I am a little sowing illiterate so specific details will help. Also, the automatic needle threader isn't working. I don't mind threading it myself, but I though it may be a clue to what is wrong.
