Halo Reach weird purple thing in forge at the Spire?

ok so i love Halo and i like to play around in Forge and i was recently playing at the Spire and found this weird covenant colored purple thingy that seems to do nothing... well i put a plasma battery on it and it looked totally trashed instantly. What on earth (or reach) is it?! It's driving me insane!!
