Can anyone recommend to me a decent Electric Guitar?

I have been teaching myself guitar for over a year now and i've just started off on a cheap electric guitar. I have decided I want to buy a decent electric guitar. I don't know much about guitar buying and only know really the more you pay the better its going to be. I'd like to get a guitar that after a while I don't grow out of. I want to play rock music like metallica, disturbed and korn etc and want it to sound good. I am also looking for an amp and am looking for some sugestions on what amps are good to buy to get a rock sound out of???
